Project Summary

Summary: A mobile solution for on-site engineers

mQuest is a small mobile tools application I designed early in my career. The goal was to given field engineers in the oil & gas industry easy access to looking up tools. With the literally thousands of tools and parts, having a digital database in your pocket is a game-changer. In addition to looking up simple information about parts, the app contained a 3D simulator to visually display tools. This party was more tricky for development, but made the app unique in its smooth blend of modern user interface design and 3D simulation. With that in mind I worked with the UX Director to design something with a relatively simple UI that would not add to load times that fit multiple mobile platforms.

The original report
Application Design, UI Pattern, and prototype

The project scope was rather lofty considering the short design timeline of about 3 weeks. Within that time, I met with the product manager to understand the main challenges and pain points of the users. I then concepted, prototyped, and eventually supported a launch of a new actionable dashboard for educators.

Main Problem:

Field engineers need an easier way to find information about tools they use while out in the field.

Project Outcomes

The feedback on the project was overwhelmingly positive. The engineers optimized the appliation's 3D elements to a degree that the app felt snappy and the mobile deisgn pattern I helped put together ended up serving as the cornerstorne for other mobile apps going forward.
